Just got back from Naruto Ramen and had the biggest bowl of noodles. And every time I eat noodles they kick my ass. Heres to checking another neighborhood joint off the end of summer list.

I illustrated the yummy ramen here. As you can see it dripped and sloshed everywhere. the only thing this doesn't convey is how delicious it was. I wish you could taste pictures.

just so you know i drew that ramen with my track pad on my laptop without tablet assistance and I am pretty proud of it.

So it just happens I married a nerd. A wonderful handsome talented man who loved video games and keeps up on all the gamer news. He just purchased a new 3d DS. It came with these little cards that when you place the DS over them they move and turn into games you interact with. It is pretty amazing. He has begun to rub off on me this man. And so I made him the 8-Bit print.

+as usual husby went above and beyond for my birthday. he took me to spotted pig- best burger in nyc.

+next stop broadway- we saw book of mormon- which was by far the best broadway show ive ever seen. despite the fact that it was the only broadway show i have ever seen it was very entertaining for a musical and exceeded my expectations. they sung about explosive doo doo. it was amazing.

+ we capped off the evening at billy's bakery. where they serve the most incredible banana cake. i sure do love banana cake.

Ive recently been meditating on the idea of growth. In New York City it is very difficult to afford a home in the area in which you work. I work in midtown where the average 1 bedroom costs the grand total of one miiiillion dollars. Apartments in my area of prospect heights are anywhere between 500,000 and 1 million dollars.
Traditionally lives follow this growth path: ill start in the middle-marriage, home, baby, another baby, retire. All of these seem so far away. I couldn't possibly imagine the ability to afford a home. $30,000 in school loans and making barely enough to pay that down plus the growing living costs of the city i feel entirely overwhelmed. Things tend to work out for the best but I can't help feeling a little, i don't know, despondent.

Fairy Tales And Their Original Gruesome Endings

1. Sleeping Beauty - In Disney’s Sleeping Beauty, the princess is put to sleep when she pricks her finger on a spindle. She sleeps for one hundred years when a prince finally arrives, kisses her, and awakens her. They fall in love, marry, and live happily ever after. In the original, the young woman is put to sleep because of a prophecy, rather than a curse. And it isn’t the kiss of a prince which wakes her up: the king sees her asleep, so he rapes her. After nine months she gives birth to two children (while she is still asleep). One of the children sucks her finger which removes the piece of flax which was keeping her asleep. She wakes up to find herself raped and the mother of two kids.

2. Little Red Riding Hood - The version of this tale that most of us are familiar with ends with Riding Hood being saved by the woodsman who kills the wicked wolf. But in fact, the original French version, there is no woodsman to save her, she ends up being eaten by the wolf.

3. The Little Mermaid - In the Disney version, the film ends with Ariel being changed into a human so she can marry Eric. But, in the very first version by Hans Christian Andersen, the mermaid sees the Prince marry a princess and she despairs. She is offered a knife with which to stab the prince to death, but rather than do that she jumps into the sea and dies by turning to froth.

4. Snow White - In the tale of Snow White that we are all familiar with, the Queen asks a huntsman to kill her and bring her heart back as proof. Instead, the huntsman can’t bring himself to do it and returns with the heart of a boar. In the original tale, the Queen actually asks for Snow White’s liver and lungs – which are to be served for dinner that night. Also in the original, Snow White wakes up when she is jostled by the prince’s horse as he carries her back to his castle – not from a magical kiss. The prince was planning to have sex with the dead body of Snow White.

5. Goldilocks - In this tale, pretty little Goldilocks finds the house of the three bears. She sneaks inside and eats their food, sits in their chairs, and finally falls asleep on the bed of the smallest bear. When the bears return home they find her asleep – she awakens and escapes out the window in terror. The original tale has two possible variations. In the first, the bears find Goldilocks and rip her apart and eat her. In the second, Goldilocks is actually an old hag who (like the sanitized version) jumps out of a window when the bears wake her up. The story ends by telling us that she either broke her neck in the fall, or was arrested for vagrancy and sent to the “House of Correction”.

6. Cinderella - In the modern Cinderella fairy tale we have the beautiful Cinderella swept off her feet by the prince and her wicked step sisters marrying two lords – with everyone living happily ever after. But, lurking behind the pretty tale is a more sinister variation by the Grimm brothers: in this version, the nasty step-sisters cut off parts of their own feet in order to fit them into the glass slipper – hoping to fool the prince. The prince is alerted to the trickery by two pigeons who peck out the step sister’s eyes. They end up spending the rest of their lives as blind beggars while Cinderella gets to lounge about in luxury at the prince’s castle

on a seperate note entirely chris has gone home to florida to visit family and left me here alone in new york with our awful plumbing. Kate of: croak and hum created the most amazing associative flash cards. I love that it was an evolving changable project in shich after a few days the cards were switched to create new and unexpected pairings.

I found my bar. Roughly 5 blocks away on Vanderbuilt and Dean is Weather UP. It looks a bit like a bathroom from the outside. But inside you will find an amazing collection of mustachioed mixologists dressed in 20's speak easy garb. I asked for my traditional ginger whiskey and they brought out the most spectacular ginger and bourbon high ball with a piece of candied ginger in it. For $9 its the most affordable cocktail bar I've ever been to in NYC.

Fro my wedding I decided to take on the grand challenge of creating a print for each table in the reception tent. Because patterns are my thing, and kinda define me..i think. So I began to make a bunch of prints inserting Chris and my initials into each print. It was so much fun. It reminded my why I love making prints so much. I even made the print on my wedding dress. I hope to start uploading all of my prints to etsy so I can sell the shit outta them. Including ones that I can personalize for each individual.

Aside from the sudden surplus of wedding photos (hey I needed like 3 month break from all things wedding) I have been exactly the same. I work everyday and then try to build up the energy to board the stinky train back to Brooklyn fighting all the way for a decent spot near the doors. Just the other day I got stuck on a train with the most foul of smells. Most of the time I can tuck my nose into my scarf and ride it out but this time it was impossible, it smelled like some one barfed into a poopy diaper and smeared it on their stinky armpits. All of the train cars were packed to such a point that it looked like the door might not close. It was the pits, literally the pits of hell. I survived but man oh man winter sure can bring all the stinkers in from the cold and deposit them on my daily commute home.

Speaking of winter I have become quite homesick for the south and the subtle seasonal changes. Don't get me wrong Fall is my favorite month but dang it New York get COOOOLD! I am a very sensitive little creature and the cold chills my bones.

Other than being cold I have to say life pretty much rocks. I love my husband and my dog. I love our apartment and I love that I am in Love.

I even found an amazing thing to occupy my unending need to create I am going to start taking classes at 3rd Ward in Williamsburg and get some website learnin in. I had to unplug my website recently. It was a hard decision to make but I am a married woman now and I had to make the choice to change my name professionally or not. I created an identity for myself as "Kimb James" and I have to re-brand somehow involving my new last name- Jammal. Which is pretty much just the Arab interpretation of James. Did I mention my husband's family is from Lebanon? Well I am in the process of adopting his name and filling out paperwork and pretty much reformatting my little life here. Brilliant. I have updated the world on my life and I am done for the day.

We didn't have a pro photographer, so we didnt have to shell out big bucks for someone to drive out to the cape and take out pix. I highly recommend this route especially if you a 2 retired fathers that love taking photos so much they went out and got super amazing cameras to feed their addiction. Either way it was so nice to go thru all of our family's photos from our wedding day and see their eye shine thru. All of the above photos are from my amazingly talented father in law who is an architect by profession but just happens to take majorly awesome photos. It was also nice to not have to leave the party for too long to take professional photos. All we wanted to do all night was eat our burgers and dance. Which we did. It was so incredible to be able to be so free in our wedding. No DJ to order us around, no photographer following us around putting us in random poses. It was amazing. Of coarse if you get the right professional they will be invisible and turn out some good photos. But it was nice to be able to say: "Sorry dad, but no more photos we want some champagne."
